“I am strongly affected by the way
things look. I have intense, sometimes extreme, responses to almost
all the visual data that I receive
from my eyes. On a daily and continual basis I react to and assess
the way things appear; with objects and scenes of beauty I wish to
unlock and understand their beauty, and in a similar way I wish to
understand why some things are not. I find the most intense beauty
in nature; the forms and movements of her plants and animals, natural
materials, light and its interplay with the elements, and the perfect
combination of all these elements into land and seascapes. My man made
influences include my study of physics at Oxford and in particular
quantum mechanics which expounds fantastic forms, the great designers,
craftsman and architects, music, art and the engineering of anything
from cars planes and boats to rockets, clocks, and micro engineering.
The list is endless, and the world full of inspiration, indeed I have
travelled around the globe witnessing as much of it as I could.
The intense stream of inspiration this furnishes me with drives all
of my furniture designs. Each piece is carefully conceived, such that
each piece contains at least one truly unique feature, this then is
the key that unlocks the whole design. The design process is then painstakingly
thought out, and the best manufacturing methods established through
prototyping, thus creating a highly engineered piece of furniture which
will provide many decades, indeed centuries of use and pleasure to
my clients and their heirs.
